Does your child or someone you care for act like a
king and has difficulty with being told what to do? Is your job as a parent
or teacher challenging, more than most? If yes, then read on. You may
be in the company of an Indigo child.
There are children who do not seem to fit the school
system's structure and are labeled with ADD/ADHD when in fact they may
simply have within themselves special gifts and needs which are not being
recognized and addressed. Some refer to these children as the "New
Children" when in fact they have been born in larger numbers over
the past several decades.
These children have also been referred to as Indigo
Children, Star Children, Blue Children & Children of the Light. Nancy
Ann Tappe, PhD, counselor and metaphysician first coined the term "Indigo
Children" in her book Understanding Your life Through Color.
"We're seeing a new generation of Masters coming into the planet
... We are dealing with very old souls, in very tiny bodies, who, in most
cases know more than the parents."
Why the term Indigo? "The indigo color is a mixture
of Red and Blue. It is the Ray of the Aquarian Age, the soul color. It
represents self-mastery, inspiration and integration. It is the most powerful
ray in the whole spectrum. It is a bridge between the metaphysical &
the spiritual. Indigo is associated with the pineal gland, the master
gland for intuition." according to Renee Brodie in The Healing
Tones of Crystal Bowls. When one stimulates the pineal gland, one's
gifts of clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience develop further.
That is why the Indigo children are so aware of and sensitive to their
environments. They see what others cannot see, they call the lie as they
live in truth and aspire for us to do the same.
In 1999, the first book about these children was written
by Lee Carroll & Jan Tober, entitled The Indigo Children The New
Kids Have Arrived. Lee & Jan are self-help lecturers and authors.
They used their "international base of contacts to collect reports
& comments by accredited children's workers, teachers, Ph.D.'s, M.D.'s
and authors all over the country."
In human history, we have evolved from the agricultural
age to the information age as we access a global wealth of information
through the internet. Changes are happening quite rapidly. Educators and
writers such as Barbara Ann Brennan speak of our progressing into "Homo
Spiritus", the next stage of our evolution.
How do Indigo children fit in? We are awakening to our
spiritual self, raising our consciousness and that of the planet. Indigo
Children are being sent as our helpers, and we must be theirs. They are
part of our evolutionary changes. "They are a manifestation of humanity's
evolution" according to Ryan Maluski Malagara, an Indigo himself
who utilizes energy healing to work with these children
They are
here to show us the way, to live a life of integrity and respect for one
another with the realization that we are all one.
How does one recognize an Indigo Child? The characteristics
are noted below yet a child may display a few or many and still is considered
an Indigo.
Characteristics of Indigo Children:
1. Comes into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often acts like
it).
2. Has a feeling of "deserving to be here, " and are surprised
when others don't share that.
3. Has an obvious sense of self. They often tell parents "who they
are."
4. Has difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation
or choice) such as
telling a child to do a certain task he does not want
to do and when asked why saying:
just do it!
5. Simply will not do certain things they are told to do; for example-
waiting in line is difficult
for them.
6. Gets frustrated with systems that are ritual-oriented that require
little creativity.
7. Often sees better ways of doing things both at home and at school,
which makes them
seem like "system busters"- refuse to do
things they are asked to do (nonconforming to
any system). - often exhibit knowledge or wisdom way
beyond their immediate
experiences of the current life and their chronological
age.
8. Seems antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are
no others of like
consciousness around them, they often let no other
human understand them. School is
extremely difficult for them socially.
9. Will not respond to "guilt" discipline- (Wait till your father
gets home and finds out what
you did").
10. Is not shy in letting you know what they need.
11. Gets bored rather easily with assigned tasks. Seen as a daydreamer.
12. Is particularly creative.
13. Displays intuition.
14. Shows strong empathy to others.
15. Develops abstract thinking very early.
16. Identified or suspected as having ADD/ADHD.
17. Has very old, deep, wise-looking eyes.
18. Self-esteem issues.
According to Dr. Robert V. Gerard, a counselor, publisher,
lecturer and healer raising an Indigo daughter, indigos are real, special
and need to be understood. They are emissaries from heaven bearing profound
intent and wisdom. They keep focused in the moment and remind us to play,
laugh and to be free. They have this ability to confront their parents
when in disharmony. Look into their eyes as they hold much wisdom and
power beyond their chronological age.
Others describe the children's gifts on three levels:
1) super-intelligent. The child's IQ is oftentimes found in the
genius range. Computers seem to be an extension of their brain. They are
easily bored with the educational system as they learn at a faster rate
or just may not be interested in a subject. They often learn best on their
own. Many educators and doctors misunderstand and classify them as having
ADD/ADHD (attention deficit disorder/attention deficiency and hyperactivity
disorder).
2) super-immune. Some have developed immunity to many diseases
including HIV/AIDS which has not been seen before defying scientific knowledge.
3) super-psychic. The gifts range from telepathy to changing cells
in a petrie dish simply by using their mind. These children may be frightening
to parents because of their ability to see beyond the third dimensional
reality. They may be able to see angels and communicate with their guides
and are misdiagnosed by the psychiatric community and given drugs to suppress
a natural ability.
These children are wired differently. We all have energetic
pathways that are bioelectro-magnetic blueprints of our full potential.
We are currently using up to 15% of our brain capacity. A large percentage
of the energetic pathways are not being utilized. They are laying untapped,
dormant if you will. For Indigo children, many of these energetic pathways
and doorways are open and are being utilized.
As one is raising an Indigo child, each stage of development
has a set of special needs and skills pertaining to parents and their
children. At every stage, the goal is to raise the child's vibration/
frequency for an easier adaptation to their daily life.
Ways to help Indigo Children include:
1. Finding ways to keep the child grounded by developing
rituals, using visualizations,
spending time in nature, bringing nature into your
home.
2. Allowing quiet, free time is essential for their mental well. Running
from one activity to the
next is so often seen in today's families. This type
of schedule may overwhelm the child who
is then perceived as hyperactive when they are simply
overwhelmed by their environment.
3. Discipline is vital for Indigos. Giving the child choices with an explanation
of the
consequences along with loving discipline is paramount..
4. Educating your child at home or finding a school open to allowing the
child to learn through
his own gifts, using their whole brain.
5. Treating vitamins and mineral deficiencies.
6. Healing the parent will oftentimes heal the child. One must begin with
oneself. It is of
extreme importance for the adult(s) involved with an
Indigo child to begin their own healing
process. It may mean leaving an unhealthy relationship
and in some ways places other
strains on the family unit and yet in the long run,
everyone will benefit.
7. Parents who use a holistic approach are better equipped to handle these
children.
8. Parental education in how the child's body, mind and spirit function
is very helpful.
9. Learning, as a parent, to use your intuition rather than your beliefs
system about the
professionals. Always follow your intuition as there
are so many modalities available and
each child is unique in what will work. Each child
is an individual and as such will have
strong and tenacious desires, needs and tastes. The
ultimate goal for any of these modalities
entails bringing balance to the child's daily life.
10. Natural remedies work best and include
- herbs
- Energy therapies as Indigos are extremely sensitive
to energy. They pick up on the energy
of others and their environment and take
it as their own. They have a hard time knowing
the difference between their energy and
somebody else's.
- yoga and meditation during pregnancy and afterwards
for parents and children.
As parents flood them with love, patience, and harmony
and they will blossom endlessly. The children will bring you into a future
of peace, love and harmony, a virtual Heaven on Earth.
These children will light up your life and bring joy
beyond belief. Listen to their hearts. Sing and dance with them and begin
your transformation along with theirs (Babes of light).

rather than to label them.
